Seven Sisters Surround Wall

Besides offering an excellent lineup of workshops in stone carving, clay modeling and metal welding, The Carving Studio and Sculpture Center in Rutland, Vermont is host to a sculpture park chock-full of outdoor delights.

A workshop I instructed there in 2019 was the first step toward realizing a sculpture designed by Josie Dellenbaugh. The dry stone wall built by the participants became the lead-in to a grouping of granite stele. Last year Josie adorned the seven standing stones with symbolic petroglyphs. This summer Jared Flynn and I completed her vision for the work by building a circular enclosure for the pieces. Once the landscape grading and seeding is done, visitors to CSSC will have a new outdoor “room” to enjoy.
